Proximate Analysis

Proximate analysis includes the determination of dry matter, ash, nitrogen and fat. The laboratories contain equipment for preparing samples for these assays e.g. grinders, mills and homogenisers. The labs also contain ovens, muffles and balances to carry out the dry matter and ash determinations while micro-kjeldahl digestion apparatus can be assembled when required. The institute’s Large Freeze Drier is available for drying up to 40kg of material. Energy determination can be carried out on a Bomb Calorimeter and space is available for sample preparation.
