Rowett Research Services runs an active programme of human volunteer trials servicing the food, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical sectors. In recent years we have assisted companies by studies for producers and manufacturers of new health promoting food products.

Novel Beverage Product Study (Men aged 20-50)

We are currently looking for male volunteers to help us investigate a new drink product and its effect on appetite and hunger, and food selection.

If you are a:

• Healthy non-smoker
• Not taking any medications
• Normal weight, BMI (kg/m2) =20-28

Further Information

We are investigating whether the properties of different drinks have different effects on appetite and hunger, and food selection. We are interested in developing new “functional foods” that enhance appetite and satiety, and that may be useful in helping people increase or limit their food and energy intakes.

We plan to carry out this study in healthy men, who are non-smokers and aged between 20 and 50 years. Anybody with chronic health complaints, such as heart problems, thyroid disease or diabetes cannot take part. We aim to recruit 32 volunteers for this study.

We will ask you to come to the Human Nutrition Unit for a couple of hours before the start of the study for a medical, measurement of Resting Metabolic Rate, Body Composition and to carryout a sub-maximal oxygen consumption test. Then we will ask you to come to the Unit on four occasions, separated by at least a week, for a test-day. During each of these test-days we will ask you to drink one of the four different beverages, we will also provide all of your food and drink for the test-days.
