| One of the most important roles for
Rowett Research Services is to facilitate the transfer of ideas
from the bench to the market place so that the research undertaken
in our laboratories can be made available in practical, accessible
forms to the consumer.
We recognise that many opportunities coming from the
research base are often released to the commercial world before
they are sufficiently advanced to be commercial interest. As a result
we do not release technologies publicly until we have undertaken
extensive internal development. In recent years this has been supported
through external schemes such as Scottish
Enterprise Proof of Concept (four awards) and SMART
(two awards) in addition to using our own reserves. In 2004 in recognition
of this commitment we became founding members of the Genomia
Seed Fund an OST and European supported early stage investment
fund.
The company has been active in helping to develop
intellectual property for commercialisation through a number of
routes. Since 2000 we have successfully created four new companies
with technologies spanning the life science arena. Our activities
are not limited to this and a number of our technologies have been
licensed to established companies for development or are subject
to collaborative development programmes.
In some areas the potential impact of the technology
may span a number of sectors or interest groups and we are keen
to bring together groups of companies in these situations so that
opportunities can be maximised.
Rowett has access to a wide range of public funding
initiatives in Scotland, the UK and Europe to help support development
of science towards the market place or promote collaborations and
our expert team are available to help commercial partners to identify,
secure and manage the most appropriate financial support.
